Dance of the Fairies (QFG inspired "demo", RIP to a friend)

Dance of the Fairies (QFG inspired "demo", RIP to a friend)

Postby ewing » Wed Apr 19, 2017 8:16 am

Hi all,

I wrote a “demo” (as in demoscene for lack of a better term) inspired by the fairy dance in QFG1 and dryad dance in QFG5. I wrote it in memory of a friend who died this past summer.

You can watch “Dance of the Fairies” on YouTube:

For those interested in more backstory, I also wrote more about the demo and Carlos on my blog here.

I hope you all enjoy this. I also appreciate any help spreading this around.

Thanks,
Eric

Super cool!!! thank you for sharing and also the blog behind it. That is very sad about your friend but this is a very nice tribute.

Was Carlos a big QFG/Sierra fan also?

Thank you. Ironically, he wasn't much of a gamer, even though his companies were about making tools for game developers. However, I suspect he knew of King's Quest, and possibly Leisure Suit Larry. But I remember he was genuinely happy for me when I told him I was getting praise from so many of my Sierra designer heroes for my "Why We Loved Sierra Games" video.

So the decision to do this demo came about mostly trying to fit all the technologies that were special to him/us into something. Since I had Sierra on the brain from the video (still), the fairy concept gelled. But I guess it also makes it a very personal tribute from me, since I'm taking a piece from myself (my love of Sierra games) and making it part of the tribute.

Very touching story. Sounds like Carlos was a genuine hero.

My favorite part was watching the sprites play Pong. Very cute.

That was beautiful.

And funny, too. I liked the part where the pong ball fairy flew off screen and the others momentarily freaked out :)
